Starstruck began in the late 1970s in New York’s wild experimental arts scene, exploding onto the stage in 1980 as a feminist, satirical sci‑fi play by Elaine Lee, with visuals by Michael Wm. Kaluta. Its universe quickly expanded into comics, first appearing in European anthologies in 1981, then in Heavy Metal through 1983. Marvel published the first Starstruck graphic novel in 1984, followed by a six‑issue Epic Comics run in 1985 and 1986.
